According to the Health Ministry, which is administered by Hamas, a major explosion rocked a hospital in Gaza City on Tuesday that was packed with wounded Palestinians and other Palestinians seeking sanctuary. The explosion resulted in the deaths of hundreds of people. Hamas placed blame on an attack carried out by Israel, however the Israeli military pointed the finger to a rocket that was accidentally fired by other Palestinian militants.

Jordan’s foreign minister said his country cancelled a regional summit scheduled for Wednesday in Amman, where Mr. Biden was to meet with Jordan’s King Abdullah II, Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, and Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sissi. This came as anger spread throughout the region as a result of the hospital carnage, and as President Joe Biden prepared to travel to the Middle East in an effort to prevent the war from spreading further.
According to an official from the White House, the only country he plans to visit at this time is Israel.
Before the explosion on Tuesday, health officials in Gaza had estimated that at least 3,000 people had been murdered during Israel’s 11-day bombardment of Gaza. This bombardment began following a Hamas rampage on southern Israeli villages on October 7, during which 1,300 people were killed and around 200 were taken into Gaza as captives.
