Rubi Laboratories, a company founded by twins, has developed a groundbreaking technology that converts air into fabric.

Here at Daily News Story, we are strong believers in the concept of upcycling. However, when we do make a purchase, we do so with a great deal of consideration, and the reason for this is that we are aware of the significant role that the fashion sector plays in the global carbon crisis. In point of fact, they are responsible for ten percent of all of the carbon emissions in the globe. You did not make a mistake when you read that number—10%… This places it as the third worst carbon contributor on the planet.

The good news is that suffering inevitably leads to creativity…Additionally, some well-known textile companies are taking innovative and impressive steps to lessen the impact of their production on the environment. We have recently come upon one that has us falling head over heels in love with it.

Meet Rubi Laboratories, a startup company based in the United States that was established by Neeka and Leila Mashouf, two very bright twin sisters. Both began their careers in scientific research at the tender age of 15, having been raised in the redwood forests and along the shores of Northern California. They fell in love with trees and nature while growing up in these environments, as well as the science behind how trees work and the materials from which they are produced. What is the unique twist? Their Uncle owned BeBe, the legendary department store that so many of us grew up adoring and shopping at. As a result, a concept emerged from individuals who had nature and style ingrained in their DNA.

These incredible women have accomplished something that is just mind-boggling; they have created carbon-negative textiles for the fashion industry literally out of thin air, as part of their commitment to preventing the degradation of our clean air, water, climate, land, and biodiverse ecosystems.

The operation is as follows: Using their very unique enzyme system, Rubi Labs has devised a one-of-a-kind procedure that sequesters carbon dioxide (CO2) from the waste streams produced by manufacturing. After that, the gas is converted into a substance known as cellulose pulp, which can be utilised in the production of yarn or fibres for use in the manufacture of textiles.

In most cases, viscose, which is also known as rayon, is manufactured from wood pulp, which requires the elimination of trees. But because of the invention that Rubi Labs has developed, there is no longer any need to cut down any trees. They are able to produce textiles that are entirely derived from carbon emissions, and the best thing is that the production process takes very little land or water. In addition to this, their technique does not result in the production of any trash, and when these textiles have reached the end of their useful lives, they will naturally biodegrade.

If you are interested in learning more about what happened, here is a video in which the sisters discuss everything that transpired. It really holds your attention.

Are we all able to utter “swoon”? Thankfully, the majority of the investment community feels the same way. They have just recently acquired an additional $8.7 million in investment, increasing their total finances to $13.5 million, and they are currently moving into the next level of testing while simultaneously working on new projects with well-known companies such as Ganni, Patagonia, Reformation, and Nuuly.

It is quite reassuring to witness such wonderful discoveries coming to light, and it instills in us optimism for a more promising future. Keep an eye out for any fresh information regarding Rubi’s materials as their products begin to make their way onto the market.
