“Everyone in Ladakh knows—I’ve been saying this for years”: Rahul Gandhi on the China map dispute

0

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi stated that the people of Ladakh were aware that China had taken over its land, and he referred to this matter as a significant problem.

After China claimed Arunachal Pradesh and Aksai Chin as its territory on a newly released map, Congress MP Rahul Gandhi stated on Wednesday that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s claim that not a single inch of land has been lost in Ladakh was a lie. Gandhi made this statement in response to China’s claim that Arunachal Pradesh and Aksai Chin are part of China. India has voiced its disagreement with the allegation, and its minister of external affairs, S. Jaishankar, stated that China has a longstanding practise of making nonsensical claims.

Rahul Gandhi, who is visiting Karnataka to attend an event introducing the Gruha Lakshmi programme in Mysuru, stated the following while Congress was questioning New Delhi’s stance on China: “I have been saying for years that what the PM said that not one inch of land was lost in Ladakh is a lie.” Rahul Gandhi is currently in Karnataka to attend the event.

“Everyone in Ladakh is aware that China has violated its territory. This problem with the map is a very serious one. They have dispossessed us of the land. Rahul suggested that the Prime Minister make a statement on the matter.

On Monday, China officially unveiled the 2023 edition of its “standard map,” which depicted the Indian state of Arunachal Pradesh and the Aksai Chin region as being a part of China’s borders. China conquered the Aksai Chin region during the 1962 conflict. Additionally, Taiwan and some contested territory in South China were claimed by this map.

The release of the map occurred a few days after a recent meeting that took place between Chinese President Xi Jinping and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the margins of the 15th BRICS Summit in South Africa. During that meeting, the two leaders reached an agreement “to intensify efforts at expeditious disengagement and de-escalation at the LAC.”

Xi Jinping, President of China, will be present at the G20 Summit that will be held in India’s national capital from September 8-10. The summit is being hosted by India.
Recent trip by Rahul Gandhi to Ladakh Gandhi recently made his first trip to Ladakh since the withdrawal of Article 370. During this trip, he stated that “China has taken away people’s land and they are not being allowed to graze their cattle.”

During his trip to Pangong Lake, which is located in the eastern part of Ladakh, Rahul said, “Over here, people are concerned over China taking away their land.” People have been negatively impacted as a result of the loss of their grazing pastures.

“People here say that Chinese forces entered and took their grazing land and (now) they can’t go there,” Rahul said in response to a question about the Center’s assertions that there have been no Chinese invasions and that the Chinese have not taken any land. It is not true, as stated by the Prime Minister, that not a single inch of land has been lost…. If you ask anyone around here, they will tell you the truth.
