According to the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), the Pragyan rover made its way across the surface of the Moon earlier on Friday and travelled a distance of 8 metres.
On Saturday, the Indian Space Research Organisation, also known as ISRO, published a new video that shows the Pragyan rover from Chandrayaan-3 exploring the area on the lunar surface near where the spacecraft landed. This area is known as the ‘Shiv Shakti’ Point.
The Indian space agency announced, along with the release of the visuals on X (which was formerly known as Twitter), “Chandrayaan-3 Mission: “Where do we stand now? In its search for the secrets of the moon’s south pole, the Pragyan rover explores the area near Shiv Shakti Point.

According to the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), the Pragyan rover made its way across the surface of the Moon earlier on Friday and travelled a distance of 8 metres. On the surface of the moon, a few faint tracks were left behind by the rover’s rear wheels. These marks bore the imprints of the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) and the Indian insignia.
In the meantime, Prime Minister Narendra Modi met with scientists from ISRO today and congratulated them on the successful lunar landing. The meeting took place at the ISRO Telemetry Tracking and Command Network Mission Control Complex (ISTRAC), where he commended the Chandryaan-3 heroes participating in the mission.
PM Modi made the announcement that the location where Chandrayaan 3 would touch down on the moon will be known as “Shiv Shakti,” while the location where Chandrayaan 2 will leave its traces will be known as “Tiranga.” In addition to this, he declared August 23 to be ‘National Space Day’ in honour of Chandrayaan-3’s successful soft landing on the moon.
Near the moon’s south pole at 6:04 p.m., the lander module of the Chandrayaan-3 spacecraft, which included the Vikram lander and the Pragyan rover, successfully completed a soft landing. This occurred many days after the failure of the Russian lander Luna-25.
As a follow-up mission to the 2019 Chandrayaan-2, the latest moon programme aims to achieve three objectives: to demonstrate a safe and soft landing on the moon surface, which could not be achieved during Chandrayaan-2; to demonstrate rover roving abilities on the moon surface; and to conduct in-situ scientific experiments.
